HAGÅTÑA — Congressman James Moylan said Saturday he has confirmed that FEMA officials stand ready to assist Guam in response to Typhoon Sinlaku despite a partial federal government shutdown currently affecting the Department of Homeland Security.
Moylan said he has requested regular updates from NOAA including a Member-level briefing scheduled for Monday as the storm advances. He has also reached out to Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero to offer his assistance in engaging with federal agencies.
Moylan welcomed Leon Guerrero’s state of emergency declaration and noted that the administration and the Guam Legislature are working to appropriate $25 million in local funding for disaster preparation and recovery.
“My office will continue to work with the relevant federal disaster response agencies to ensure that they are aware of the growing storm threat and are able to respond accordingly,” Moylan said. “We will also keep the public informed as new information is available.”
Moylan said he is confident the community will recover.
“We are a very resilient community that has weathered many of these major storms through the years,” he said. “My prayers go out for the safety of all.”
