Looking for a family-friendly activity? Just because the movie theater closed doesn’t mean the magic is gone — it’s just moving to the stage.
SAIPAN – Mount Carmel School’s Theatre Club is bringing the wizarding world to Saipan with its upcoming production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Secondary School Edition, with performances set for Thursday, December 4, and Friday, December 5, at the Marianas Beach Resort Ballroom.
The play, based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne, picks up 19 years after Harry, Ron, and Hermione saved the wizarding world. They return for a new adventure alongside a new generation arriving at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When Harry Potter’s head-strong son, Albus, befriends the son of his father’s longtime rival, Draco Malfoy, it launches an unbelievable journey with the power to change both past and future.
The show will be directed by Theatre Club veteran and senior Heleyna Dela Santa. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child feels special on stage because it pulls you back into a world you didn’t realize you missed,” Dela Santa said. “It’s warm and familiar and it hits in a real way that makes you glad you came.”
Vice Principal and Theatre Club Adviser Zeno Deleon Guerrero Jr. said he is equally excited about the production. “This show reminds us of the power and magic of storytelling to heal and uplift us, especially in challenging times,” he said. “Our students have worked tirelessly to create something extraordinary, and I hope people come out to experience the wonder and joy they’ve created together.”
The show’s producer and Theatre Club founder, Galvin Deleon Guerrero, praised the cast and crew for bringing another major production to the community. “The club has always told great stories, whether they be classics from William Shakespeare, Disney musicals, or original productions, and this show will be no different, even if it took us about a decade to secure the rights to perform this show,” he said. “But it has definitely been worth the wait and I guarantee audiences are going to love this magical production!”
