SAIPAN — The CNMI Department of Labor said it has not received an official notice from Grandvrio Resort Saipan regarding the hotel’s planned temporary closure, but will be reaching out as the agency prepares support services for workers who could be affected, according to Acting Labor Secretary Timothy Asaivao.
“The Department of Labor recognizes the significant impact the GrandVrio Hotel’s closure has on its employees and the broader community,” Asaivao said. He added that the department’s priority is ensuring workers receive “the support, guidance, and protections they are entitled to.”
Asaivao said Labor has been deploying Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Rapid Response Services to companies that file a reduction in force, noting the program has been used for other major hotels and businesses in recent months. He said the Rapid Response program allows the department to offer immediate options to displaced workers, including enrollment in WIA programs and registration on the Labor Job Board.
“As our islands face economic uncertainty, the Department of Labor will continue to do everything within our authority to protect workers and support a smooth transition for those affected,” Asaivao said.
