SAIPAN — Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds has announced the start of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition, inviting high school students across the Commonwealth to submit original artwork for a chance to have their piece displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
This year’s theme is “Our Golden Chapter: 50 Years of the Covenant.” The competition is free and open to all CNMI high school students. All submissions must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
“This will be the second year I will be hosting the competition, and I am excited to see what our high school students in the Marianas have in store,” King-Hinds said. “We had a strong number of submissions last year, and I was impressed by the level of talent. I’m hoping to see even more participation this year.”
The annual competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives and open to high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. territories. The winning entry from the Northern Mariana Islands will be displayed alongside artwork from students across the country in the U.S. Capitol.
Eligible entries include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art and photography. All artwork must be original and two-dimensional and suitable for public display. A panel of local judges will evaluate submissions based on originality, creativity, artistic merit and overall presentation.
Artwork may be delivered by hand or mailed to any of the congressional district offices on Saipan, Tinian or Rota, which are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Contest guidelines and student release forms are available at king-hinds.gov/artcompetition. For more information, call the congressional office at 670-323-2647.
