King-Hinds pays tribute to Diego Tenorio Benavente

SAIPAN — Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds is mourning the death of former Lt. Gov. Diego Tenorio Benavente, calling him “an extraordinary man” whose strength, vision, and heart helped shape the Commonwealth for the better.

“I am heartbroken at the news of the passing of such an extraordinary man,” King-Hinds said in a statement. “Diego Benavente contributed to our Commonwealth in countless ways, but he was also a father, a grandfather, a husband, and a friend… His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.”

King-Hinds described Benavente as a pioneer whose impact was felt not only through his accomplishments in office but also through his kindness, generosity, and wisdom. “He was a man who led not only with purpose but with compassion, lifting others up, opening doors, and helping build a foundation on which future generations will continue to stand,” she said.

The congresswoman said Benavente’s legacy will endure in the community he helped build, in the many lives he touched, and in the spirit of service and hope he inspired. “Though words cannot ease the loss we all feel, I know that he will always be remembered with admiration, gratitude, and deep respect,” she added.

“During this difficult time, may our thoughts and prayer be with the Benavente family that they will find comfort in knowing that his life made a lasting and meaningful difference,” King-Hinds said, offering “heartfelt sympathy” to his loved ones.
