Undersecretary of the Navy Hung Cao visited the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, holding meetings with top local officials on both Saipan and Tinian.
Cao began his day on Saipan, where he met with Acting Governor Dennis Mendiola in the morning. He then flew to Tinian in the afternoon for meetings with Mayor Edwin Aldan, Senator Jude Hofschneider, and Municipal Council Chairman Joseph Santos.
Following the meetings, the undersecretary took a windshield tour of ongoing military construction sites on the island. It marked his first visit to Tinian.
Cao was accompanied throughout by Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Admiral Brett Mietus. Both officials were presented with commemorative plaques by Mayor Aldan, each containing a piece of Runway Able, the historic World War II-era runway on Tinian from which American B-29 bombers launched some of the war’s most consequential missions.
