SAIPAN — Grandvrio Resort Saipan has notified the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands (HANMI-Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands) that it plans to temporarily close starting April 2026, citing “extremely challenging business conditions” tied to a significant decline in tourist arrivals after the reduction and suspension of direct flights to Saipan.
In a letter dated December 9, Grandvrio also said it has decided to withdraw its membership from HANMI as of December 2025, citing the need to review operational priorities amid the difficult business environment. The resort said the decision does not reflect dissatisfaction with the association’s activities or mission, but is “solely due to our internal circumstances.”
The letter was signed by the resort’s general manager. NMI News Service spoke with hotel representatives who confirmed the letter’s authenticity.
This is a developing story.
