SAIPAN — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has released photos from Governor David M. Apatang’s recent meetings in Washington, D.C., showing the governor alongside DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Kevin E. Lunday, and Washington lobbyist Jason Osborne.
The images come as Apatang wraps up a trip focused on the CNMI’s top federal priorities under the ongoing Section 902 consultations, including budgetary support, tourism and transportation, labor access, and federal activities in the Marianas. The delegation also pushed to preserve EVS-TAP, secure continued federal tax cover-over payments, and advance reforms to the CW-1 program.
Admiral Lunday assumed command of the Coast Guard on January 15, 2026, as its 28th Commandant. His inclusion in the meetings signals the CNMI’s continued engagement with federal authorities on maritime and security issues in the region.
Osborne, who represents CNMI business interests in Washington, was also present alongside senior administration officials during the meetings.
Governor Apatang is expected to brief the public on the outcome of the Washington trip at a press conference tomorrow. NMI News Service will have coverage.
