SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang on Sunday urged all residents of the Commonwealth to secure their homes, gather essential supplies and stay informed through official channels as Typhoon Sinlaku continues to intensify and bear down on the Marianas.
“As we continue to monitor Typhoon Sinlaku, I strongly encourage everyone to prepare early and remain vigilant,” Apatang said. “Preparedness today can make a critical difference in protecting lives and minimizing damage.”
The governor said the Commonwealth is actively coordinating with the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Office and the National Weather Service.
As of Sunday morning, Sinlaku carried sustained winds of 110 mph and was located approximately 540 miles southeast of Saipan, moving north-northwest. The latest track from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center projects a direct passage over Rota as a Category 4 typhoon, with impacts expected from Monday evening through Wednesday. A Typhoon Watch remains in effect for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
