SAIPAN — With the deadline to apply for federal disaster assistance approaching, FEMA and CNMI emergency officials are reminding applicants why their aid may be delayed and urging them to stay in touch.
In a public message, FEMA acknowledged that applying for federal assistance after a disaster can be stressful and asked the public to be patient. The agency said the most common reasons for delays are verifying an applicant’s identity, confirming occupancy of a damaged home and missing documents.
For that reason, FEMA wants applicants to stay in touch and respond to requests for additional information. Applicants can call 671-735-1050 or 800-621-3362 for updates.
FEMA also pointed to a new online status tracker at DisasterAssistance.gov. Once logged in, applicants can click the “Status” tab for updates on their application or the next steps they may need to take.
The last day to apply is June 22.
