SAIPAN – The Department of Public Safety will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on New Year’s Eve as part of heightened enforcement efforts to keep roads safe during the holiday.
The DUI checkpoint is scheduled for Wednesday, December 31, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Beach Road in Garapan along the northbound lane near the former Joe Bar’s location.
“We want everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly,” said DPS Public Information Officer Fred Sato in a press release issued Thursday.
In addition to the checkpoint, Highway Patrol officers will conduct high-visibility saturation patrols along major primary and secondary roadways from 6:00 p.m. on December 31 through 1:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026. The enhanced patrols are designed to promote traffic safety and ensure compliance with traffic laws during one of the busiest nights of the year.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead for safe transportation if they intend to consume alcohol during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Designated drivers, rideshare services, and taxis are recommended alternatives to impaired driving.
