SAIPAN — The Department of Public Safety released an official statement Wednesday evening at 6:51pm, outlining initial investigative details in the Puerto Rico auto-pedestrian crash that left a female pedestrian dead.
DPS said 911 Dispatch received a report of the crash at about 7:31 a.m. along Chalan Pale Arnold Road near the Shell gas station in Puerto Rico.
Responding officers arrived and observed two men performing life-saving measures, including CPR, on a female who was lying unresponsive on her back in the northbound lane of Chalan Pale Arnold Road, DPS said.
DPS said Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services medics arrived shortly afterward and transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Care Corporation Emergency Room. At 7:55 a.m., DPS said the pedestrian was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
In its statement, DPS also provided details from its preliminary investigation. DPS said the vehicle’s operator was traveling northbound past the Shell gas station when he felt his vehicle strike something. DPS said the driver applied his brakes, pulled over to the shoulder, and then observed the pedestrian lying on the roadway.
DPS said the driver and the vehicle involved remained at the scene. The case remains under investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available, DPS said.
