SAIPAN — Electric bills in the Commonwealth are going up after the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation raised its Fuel Adjustment Charge this week, ending a freeze that had been in place for more than a year.
The FAC increased from $0.19706 per kilowatt-hour to $0.22075 per kilowatt-hour, effective March 16. The change applies uniformly to residential, commercial, government and municipal pumping customers.
The adjustment follows a Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission order lifting the FAC tariff freeze, which took effect March 15. The rate had been frozen at its previous level since March 6, 2025, while CUC worked to reconcile past fuel costs.
The FAC is one of two components that make up the CUC Electric Charge. It covers strictly fuel and fuel-related purchases. The other component, the CUC Base Rate, has not changed since April 2014 and funds personnel, operations, projects, debt service and other non-fuel expenses.
