Hooah for the Holidays!

Saipan – The CNMI government announced Monday the launch of Operation Governor’s Digital Connect, a program that will distribute approximately 600 laptops to veterans in an effort to bridge the digital divide and expand access to essential online services.

Governor David M. Apatang and Lieutenant Governor Dennis James C. Mendiola, both veterans themselves, are spearheading the multi-agency initiative in partnership with the Veterans Affairs Office and the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Office.

The program aims to provide eligible CNMI veterans with new laptops to help them access VA services, healthcare through telehealth platforms, educational opportunities, and remote employment options.

“As veterans, Lieutenant Governor Mendiola and I understand firsthand the importance of ensuring our fellow servicemembers are not left behind,” Governor Apatang said. “This initiative is about dignity, access, and honoring service through action.”

Registration for the program will begin January 26, 2026, at the Veterans Affairs Office in Capitol Hill. Laptops will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited availability.

To participate, veterans must be registered with the Veterans Affairs Office. The program will include digital literacy support through a Digital Navigator stationed at the office, who will provide hands-on assistance with laptop setup and navigating online services.

Lieutenant Governor Mendiola emphasized the personal significance of the initiative for the administration. “Operation Governor’s Digital Connect reflects leadership rooted in service,” he said. “This Administration remains committed to ensuring that those who served our nation are equipped with the tools and opportunities needed to succeed in a digital world.”

The program aligns with broader CNMI efforts to close the digital divide across underserved communities throughout the Commonwealth. Officials stressed the importance of early registration given the finite resources available.

The initiative is scheduled to officially roll out in the first quarter of 2026. Veterans can contact the Veterans Affairs Office at (670) 664-2650 for more information.
