SAIPAN — The CNMI Department of Labor is reminding employers that timely written notices are required before a reduction in force (RIF) or business closure, and that the process can be completed online.
Under CNMI labor regulations, businesses must notify CNMI DOL at least 60 days before a planned RIF or closure, and give affected employees at least 30 days’ written notice before the effective date. Employers can submit the notice through the online form at labor.cnmi.gov.
Once a notice is filed, CNMI DOL says it will activate its Rapid Response process to help affected U.S. workers with job placement, retraining and transition services. The department also warns that noncompliance may result in penalties under CNMI labor laws.
