CNMI Annual Fanihi Count Set for Friday Morning Across Saipan and Tinian

SAIPAN — The 5th Annual Island-wide Fanihi Count takes place Friday, April 10, from 4:15 to 6:15 a.m., with observation sites across Saipan and Tinian. The event is free and open to all ages and experience levels.

The fanihi, or Mariana fruit bat, is a native species and important part of the island’s ecosystem. The annual count helps wildlife managers track population trends across the CNMI.

On Tinian, contact Rebecca Krasa at rkrasa.dfw@gmail.com or the Tinian Division of Fish and Wildlife at 670-433-1408. Sign up in advance to receive meeting location information. The event is co-organized with support from NAVFAC Marianas and the Conservation Investment program.
