Mangilao, Guam — Guam Department of Agriculture’s Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources is advising the public to be alert for box jellyfish in coastal waters and along shorelines, including reef flats where they may be in the water or washed up on beaches.
DAWR said box jellyfish are anticipated to be present on February 9–11, March 11–13, April 10–12, and May 10–12. Officials also reminded beachgoers, swimmers, and fishermen that box jellyfish can still sting even when washed ashore and no longer alive, and urged caution during those periods.
To report sightings, DAWR provided the following contacts: (671) 735-0289, (671) 735-0294, (671) 735-3982, or brent.tibbatts@doag.guam.gov.
