Pedestrian Struck in Crosswalk on Beach Road in San Jose, Driver Cited

SAIPAN — A 69-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing Beach Road in San Jose at the CEDA building crosswalk on Friday, March 27, and was transported to the CHCC Emergency Room, where he was listed in stable condition.

Department of Public Safety officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:21 p.m. after reports of an auto-pedestrian crash. Officers determined the pedestrian had been crossing west to east within a marked crosswalk when southbound vehicles stopped and activated their hazard lights to allow him to pass safely.

As the pedestrian continued across, a white Toyota Prius traveling southbound moved from the inner lane into the center lane and struck him. The impact caused the pedestrian to strike the front windshield before being thrown onto the roadway.

The pedestrian was conscious and alert when officers arrived but complained of head pain and had visible abrasions to his left arm. DFEMS emergency medical personnel transported him to the CHCC Emergency Room, where he was admitted for further treatment.

The driver, a 63-year-old male, was cited for multiple traffic violations. Alcohol was not determined to be a factor. The vehicle was towed and impounded.

The incident remains under active investigation.
