SAIPAN — The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence has issued a statement acknowledging community concerns over reports of non-consensual, AI-generated images of students, calling on parents to have early and ongoing conversations with their children about digital safety.
The coalition said that using artificial intelligence to create false images of people can cause real harm even when those images are not publicly shared, and that the privacy and safety of affected students should remain a priority as the matter is addressed.
“Technology is changing quickly, but our responsibility to guide our youth has not,” said Kiki I. Benjamin, Associate Director of NMCADSV. “Prevention requires education about digital safety, consent, boundaries, and respect in every space, including online. Parents, early conversations with your children are critical. We encourage you to talk early and talk often. Reach out to us if you need support in having these difficult, but essential, conversations.”
Anyone who has experienced domestic or sexual violence or is affected by these issues can call 911 for immediate emergency support or reach the 24/7 Karidat Victim Hotline at (670) 234-5100.
