HAGÅTÑA — Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Joshua F. Tenorio have written directly to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung requesting his government’s support in strengthening air connectivity between the Republic of Korea and Guam, as the island looks to build on a recent surge in Korean visitor arrivals.
The letter, dated February 27, 2026, comes as Guam recorded 380,918 visitors from South Korea in calendar year 2025. In December alone, 51,828 Korean travelers arrived on island, part of a 42 percent year-over-year increase in total visitors that month and one of Guam’s best December arrival totals since 2019. In January 2026, another 33,665 Korean passport holders chose Guam as their destination.
“As we continue to strengthen international travel and economic activity, we respectfully request the Government of the Republic of Korea’s support and consideration in helping to revitalize and expand air service between Korea and Guam,” the letter reads.
The administration framed the request around decades of people-to-people ties between Guam and Korea, describing the island as one of the most familiar, welcoming, and safe overseas destinations for Korean travelers. The letter noted that enhanced air connectivity is vital to Guam’s economy and local jobs, while also giving Korean travelers convenient access to a trusted destination.
