CNMI Board of Education sets February 19 special meeting with agenda that includes four-day school week discussion, Head Start budget revision

SAIPAN — In a post this morning on social media, the CNMI State Board of Education has scheduled a special board meeting for tomorrow Thursday, February 19, at 9:00 a.m., with the meeting to be held at the SBOE Conference Room.

The agenda lists a wide slate of education policy and governance items, including discussion of a four-day school week for school year 2026-2027, a Head Start and Early Head Start section that includes an FY 2026 budget revision and a retention incentive policy proposal, and a Commissioner of Education performance evaluation.

Under unfinished business, the board is slated to discuss and possibly take action related to the implementation and enforcement of a Supreme Court slip opinion interpreting the 25-percent general revenue requirement.

There are several board resolutions for consideration, including a resolution disallowing micromanagement by any individual board member, a waiver of any wrongdoing by any individual board member, officer eligibility during initial services for new board members, and staff member contract renewals.

Other items on the agenda include the Micronesian Islands Forum Regional Education Summit, Title I site-based decisive team matters, a CNMI long-term resident employment authorization document item, and a resolution to adopt the SARC coordinator’s SOPs as Board of Education policy.

An executive session is listed for legal counsel updates and personnel matters, including a Public School System employee grievance dating to 2018, along with other matters.
