Marianas outlook: drier stretch ahead, then showers late Saturday; rip current risk remains high

SAIPAN — A weakening shear line near Guam is expected to keep patchy clouds and light showers around Rota and Guam through, with showers possible across the Marianas on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service Forecast Office Guam’s Weekly Regional Weather Outlook issued Tuesday.

For the CNMI, the outlook calls for drier conditions during the last half of the week before a surface trough brings more showers late Saturday.

Looking ahead, forecasters said another shear line is expected to move into the Marianas early next week, bringing a period of showers and gustier winds to start the week.

Marine conditions are improving, but hazards remain. NWS Guam said seas and surf are subsiding, but a high risk of rip currents is expected along east-facing reefs and beaches through this afternoon. Moderate trade winds are expected to continue, with combined seas falling to 5 to 7 feet by Wednesday.
