Guam Governor Leon Guerrero, Lieutenant Governor Tenorio host Japan delegation led by PM’s special advisor

HAGÅTÑA, Guam — Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Joshua Tenorio met with a high-level delegation visiting Guam on behalf of the Japanese government, led by Sadamasa Oue, a special advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan.

Leon Guerrero said Guam’s relationship with Japan is “unique among all the states and territories of the United States,” and called it an honor to welcome Oue to the island.

Tenorio, citing a foundation of more than 100 Japanese businesses located in Guam, proposed establishing direct channels between Japanese trade officials and Guam’s leadership to accelerate shared economic goals. After the meeting, Tenorio said there was a clear willingness by the Japanese government to strengthen existing ties and pursue new areas of cooperation.

The delegation included representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense, along with Consul-General Susumu Ueda and Vice Consul Yumi Sasada from the Consulate-General of Japan in Hagåtña. An editor’s note in the release also lists Daijiro Matsunami, director of the Guam Relocation Project Office under the Ministry of Defense. Following their meeting at Adelup, the delegation met with military officials and toured Japanese government-funded projects on Guam
