CNMI expands Operation Governor’s Digital Connect to provide laptops, tech help for manåmko’

SAIPAN — The Office of the Governor announced Friday an expansion of Operation Governor’s Digital Connect to include manåmko’ across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, in partnership with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Office of Aging and the CNMI Broadband Policy and Development Office.

The expanded initiative is intended to bridge the digital divide affecting many senior citizens by providing access to technology, digital literacy support, and online services that are increasingly essential to daily life. Under the program, eligible manamko’ will receive laptops and hands-on assistance aimed at helping them stay connected, informed, and engaged.

Governor David M. Apatang said the expansion is about “respect” and “inclusion,” and ensuring elders are not left behind as government services and healthcare move online. A “Digital Navigator” will be made available through the Office of Aging to provide in-person help with laptop setup, basic computer skills, internet navigation, and ongoing digital support.

The program is set to begin its rollout with voucher issuance starting February 23, with registration at the Office of Aging (Manamko’ Center) in Garapan. Eligibility is limited to registered manamko’ receiving services through the Office of Aging, noting that a senior citizen discount card alone does not qualify for this program. Laptops will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, with additional registration and distribution details to be announced by the Office of Aging.
