SAIPAN — Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Jose Blas Camacho said his office has restored the Garapan Basketball Court’s backboard after vandalism struck again, as the mayor’s office continues islandwide youth sports initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and steering youth away from drugs and crime.
The Saipan Mayor’s Office said the mayor has prioritized recreational sports activities and youth tournaments since taking office, and called on the community to report criminal activity to help prevent further vandalism and protect young people.
The mayor said his team will continue partnering with local leaders, government agencies, private sector businesses, and community organizations to support the youth sports movement despite vandalism and other setbacks.
Mayor Camacho and BL Machine Shop owner Romeo C. Villa (“Bobbie”) and his team re-installed a new glass backboard at the court Tuesday afternoon with support from the Carolinian Affairs Office, DLNR (Parks & Recs), local sports organizations, and the community.
