NWS: Drier trades continue; showers and breezier winds possible later this week

SAIPAN — A drier trade-wind pattern is expected to persist over the CNMI this week, with moderate trade winds and only isolated light showers, according to the National Weather Service Guam office’s weekly regional outlook.

The outlook says combined seas are around 6 to 8 feet, with surf of 6 to 8 feet along north- and east-facing exposures. No advisories were in effect at issuance, but a shear line near Pagan is expected to drift south in the coming days, bringing a better chance for showers mid- to late-week and breezier conditions into the weekend, which could also lead to increasing seas and surf.

In its drought update, the outlook notes abnormally dry conditions are now assessed for Saipan. The outlook also says there are no suspect areas for tropical cyclone development in the region through the next week.
