Letter to party chair Patrick Cepeda signals Republican field taking shape ahead of the 2026 general election.
SAIPAN — Former Senator Vinnie Vinson Flores Sablan said Monday he intends to seek the Republican Party’s nomination for governor in the 2026 general election, formally notifying CNMI GOP President Patrick M. Cepeda in a letter dated Nov. 10. In the letter, Sablan frames his run around “stability, accountability and prosperity,” and pledges to prioritize jobs, schools, health care and fiscal transparency.
He also appeals for party unity as Republicans prepare for 2026, asking for “support, guidance and blessings” from GOP leaders and members.
In his two-page letter to Cepeda, Sablan says the Commonwealth faces “significant challenges” but “great opportunities for growth, renewal and unity,” adding that restoring confidence in government will require “integrity, humility” and accountability. Sablan closes by thanking party leadership and the “Republican family” as preparations begin for the 2026 cycle.
For months, chatter inside the party centered on whether former Gov. Ralph DLG Torres would run; Sablan’s announcement now reshapes that conversation. Now the focus among party insiders shifts to Sablan’s pick for lieutenant governor.
