King-Hinds: CNMI awarded $5.7M in first-quarter federal cash assistance

SAIPAN – In a video posted on her social media platform this morning, U.S. Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds said the CNMI has been awarded $5.7 million in first-quarter federal cash assistance. She said about $400,000 can be drawn down this month, with additional drawdowns in the following months as required documentation is submitted.

King-Hinds credited the Apatang–Mendiola administration for completing Office of Insular Affairs requests and thanked Senate and House leaders for alignment during fiscal challenges. She thanked federal partners, including President Donald J. Trump, United States Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs William “Bill” W. Hague, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Angel A. Demapan.

The congresswoman added that further measures are in the works with the Interior Department and the Administration to provide relief and jump-start the tourism industry. She noted she will remain engaged with federal partners “given the shutdown,” and urged the community to keep working together.
