SAIPAN — Expect a mostly cloudy night with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across Saipan, Tinian and Rota, with lows around 76 and light winds becoming west at 5 mph, the National Weather Service in Tiyan said in its 6 p.m. forecast.
Thursday looks partly sunny with isolated showers for Saipan and Tinian, becoming scattered island-effect showers with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Rota shares Guam’s wetter setup, with scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and locally heavy showers possible. Highs around 86, west winds 5 to 15 mph, chance of showers 50 percent.
On the water, combined seas are mellow at 4 to 5 feet and should stay that way until about Friday night. Forecasters say a new monsoon surge developing to the west, possibly alongside a tropical disturbance, could push seas near hazardous levels for small craft by early next week: 6 to 8 feet Saturday and Sunday, and 7 to 9 feet by Monday. They stress this remains highly uncertain. Something to watch, not something to change weekend plans over yet.
Locally heavy showers are possible late tonight through at least Friday, likely staying isolated to Guam and Rota through Thursday night.
