DPS Urges Drivers to Slow Down as Public Schools Open Tuesday

SAIPAN — The Department of Public Safety is reminding motorists to slow down and stay alert as public schools begin the 2026-2027 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Drivers should expect increased traffic during morning and afternoon commute hours, DPS said, and watch for school buses making frequent stops, students crossing streets and using crosswalks, pedestrians walking to and from school and increased traffic around school zones.

The department asked motorists to obey posted speed limits, remain attentive and give students and pedestrians the extra time and space they need.

“Let’s work together to make sure every student arrives at school and returns home safely,” DPS said in welcoming students, teachers and school staff back for the new school year.
