Video contest challenges CNMI youth to make alcohol and drug-free message

SAIPAN — A new video competition is inviting young people across the CNMI to create short films promoting alcohol and marijuana-free choices, with cash prizes and special awards on the line.

The contest asks participants to produce a 45 to 60 second video that motivates youth to stay alcohol and marijuana free and shows why healthy choices matter for their health, opportunities and future. The contest theme is “Be the influence, not the influenced.”

The competition has three divisions: middle school, high school, and college or adult. Participants may enter individually or as a team of up to five people. Videos may be submitted in any language as long as English subtitles are included.

Entries will be judged on creativity, message and impact. Organizers will award first, second and third place, along with special awards for Best Use of Humor, Best Message and Impact, and Best Production.

Registration closes July 3, and all video submissions are due July 17. Participants can register by scanning the QR code or clicking the link on the competition flyer, and can find contest rules and information by calling 670-285-7314 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The program is supported by federal funds under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a sub-grant award from the CHCC Community Guidance Center.
