SAIPAN — The NMI Settlement Fund says retirees will stop receiving the 25% benefit payments after the July 31, 2026 pay period, after the CNMI Government informed the Fund it will no longer fund them.
The Fund said the CNMI Government notified it on May 27 that it would no longer fund the payments beyond the July 31 pay period. The 25% benefit payments have been 100% subsidized by the CNMI Government, the Fund said.
The Settlement Fund said it is not required to pay the amount under the Consent Decree in Johnson v. Inos, Civil Case No. 09-00023 in the U.S. District Court of the Northern Mariana Islands. After July 31, Settlement Class Members will no longer receive the 25% benefit payments.
House Bill 24-84 is pending with the CNMI Legislature and proposes $2.1 million in funding to continue the payments. The Settlement Fund said it takes no position on the legislation and has no information on whether the additional funding will be passed by the Legislature.
Class members with questions about the cessation of the 25% benefit payments can contact the Division of Administrative Services at (670) 664-1100.
