SAIPAN — Senior leaders from U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Joint Task Force-Micronesia, Joint Region Marianas and the CNMI government met for the CNMI Stakeholders Meeting to coordinate ongoing military activities across the Commonwealth, the government said.
The government said the meeting served as a forum for federal and local partners to align on regional security, operational readiness, environmental stewardship and community engagement across Saipan, Tinian and Rota, particularly in the wake of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Discussions covered timelines for regional special events, joint military exercises, range usage and environmental compliance, and participants reviewed CNMI Lines of Effort and assessed military posture, infrastructure development and sustainment activities across the islands.
Gov. David M. Apatang emphasized continued collaboration between the CNMI and its military partners. “The CNMI’s partnership with our military stakeholders remains essential to maintaining regional security, strengthening emergency preparedness, and ensuring that development activities are carried out responsibly and transparently,” Apatang said. “These meetings provide an important opportunity to align priorities, address community concerns, and ensure that the interests of our people remain at the forefront as we work together toward a safer and more resilient region.”
The agenda included updates from the newly established Biosecurity Working Group and a review of the National Environmental Policy Act Consolidated Plan, which the government said reflects a commitment to protecting the Commonwealth’s natural resources while advancing mission requirements.
Ed Camacho, Special Assistant to the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, said open communication among stakeholders is critical as military activities evolve across the Marianas. “The Stakeholders Meeting provides a valuable platform for government leaders, military partners, and subject matter experts to coordinate efforts, address emerging issues, and ensure that military initiatives remain aligned with the needs and priorities of our island communities,” Camacho said.
The government said the meeting concluded with updates on military training activities and future planning to support long-term readiness while continuing the partnership between the CNMI and the Department of War.
