SAIPAN — The National Weather Service in Tiyan calls for partly cloudy skies across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota today, with isolated light showers in the morning giving way to isolated island-effect showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. East winds will run 5 to 10 mph, with highs around 87 and a 20 percent chance of showers.
Tonight stays partly cloudy with isolated showers and lows around 78, under east winds of 5 to 10 mph. Thursday brings more of the same pattern, partly cloudy with isolated morning showers, then isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms, highs around 87 and light and variable winds. Friday is mostly sunny in the morning before isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms return, with highs around 87. The pattern holds from Friday night through Tuesday, partly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers, lows in the upper 70s and highs in the upper 80s.
On the water, NWS expects light to gentle east winds through the rest of the week. Combined seas of 3 to 5 feet continue today before easing to 3 to 4 feet tonight, built from a persistent trade swell and a small west-transitioning-to-north swell arriving from distant Tropical Storm Jangmi. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms are possible over the waters in the coming days as island-induced showers drift offshore.
At Tanapag Harbor on Saipan, low tide reaches minus 0.2 feet at 3:42 p.m. Wednesday, with a high tide of 2.2 feet at 11:55 p.m. Tide tables for Tinian and Rota run on a similar cycle through Thursday.
