SAIPAN — Power bills across the Commonwealth will ease slightly in June after the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation lowered its Fuel Adjustment Charge, citing a drop in average international fuel oil prices.
Effective June 1, the FAC will decrease from $0.44489 per kilowatt-hour to $0.41280 per kilowatt-hour, CUC said. Mobil Oil Mariana Islands, Inc. notified the utility of the lower fuel oil prices. The new rate applies to residential, commercial, government and municipal pumping customers alike.
CUC noted that the May 2026 FAC was calculated at $0.60481 per kilowatt-hour based on fuel oil prices at the time, but the utility did not petition the Commonwealth Public Utilities Commission to raise the charge above the $0.44489 rate that took effect May 15.
The FAC is one of two components of CUC’s electric charge and is used solely to recover fuel and fuel-related costs. The second component, the Base Rate, has remained unchanged since April 2014 and covers personnel, operations, capital projects and other non-fuel expenses.
