COTA Reports 1,154 Sinlaku Transports, Issues Service Status Update

SAIPAN – The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority has provided 1,154 transports across the CNMI during its 42-day Super Typhoon Sinlaku activation period, the agency said Friday.

COTA reported the milestone in a service update issued from April 10 through 6 a.m. May 22. The transports included 729 medical trips, 302 trips to and from shelters, 53 categorized as other, 52 airport runs and 18 military transports.

The agency remains activated in support of the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Operations Center for ongoing shelter transportation and other recovery transit needs.

In the same update, COTA outlined the current status of its services across the three islands.

Call-A-Ride Rota and Call-A-Ride Tinian are both fully operational. Residents can call (670) 236-2682 to make reservations.

Call-A-Ride Saipan is operating for essential trips only. That includes hemodialysis, prescription refills, clinic visits and scheduled appointments. Demand Response service is also available for transport to relief and recovery sites.

Fixed Route Blue Line 1B is running under modified hours, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. With many bus stop signs still missing from the storm, COTA is asking riders to raise their hand to flag down drivers before the bus arrives.
