Music Buskers Bring Joy to Sinlaku Shelters Across Saipan

SAIPAN – One week after Super Typhoon Sinlaku, the Music Buskers loaded up and went to every shelter on Saipan to sing for the people inside, founder Patrick Fieldad said.

The group’s shelter tour started at Koblerville Elementary School on April 24 and continued through eight stops in 10 days. From Koblerville they went to Kagman High School, Oleai Head Start, Kagman Community Center, Garapan Elementary School, Dandan Head Start, and the MHS Shelter on May 1 and May 3.

“Music was everything that changes the mood and brings joy,” Fieldad said.

Shelter residents sang and danced along with the group, Fieldad said, and Red Cross staff joined in too.

“Music Buskers is not just for tourism,” Fieldad said. “It is also for the community itself.”

“Although Sinlaku ripped through homes, it didn’t rip the community’s spirit,” he said.
