COTA Logs 1,118 Sinlaku Transports, Modifies Saipan Service

SAIPAN – The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority has completed 1,118 transports for shelterees, first responders, and individuals with medical needs since being activated April 10 in response to Super Typhoon Sinlaku, COTA said.

Through 6 a.m. Thursday, COTA had transported 705 people for medical needs, 295 shelterees, 52 to the airport, 48 for other needs, and 18 military personnel, the agency said.

“COTA remains activated to support the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Operations Center for shelter transportation and other transportation needs during recovery,” the agency said.

Call-A-Ride Rota and Call-A-Ride Tinian are both fully operational, and reservations can be made by calling (670) 236-2682, COTA said. Call-A-Ride Saipan is operating for essential trips only, including hemodialysis, prescription refills, clinic visits, and scheduled appointments. Demand Response services are available for transport to relief and recovery sites, COTA said.

Fixed Route Blue Line 1B is running under modified hours from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Saturday, COTA said. With some bus stop signs still missing after the storm, riders should raise their hand to flag down drivers before the bus arrives, the agency said.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working to restore all services,” COTA said. The agency said it will continue to provide updates as conditions improve.
