NWS Marianas Forecast: Scattered Showers Thursday, Rip Current Risk Holds

SAIPAN – Partly sunny skies with isolated morning showers and scattered afternoon showers are expected across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota Thursday, with highs around 87 degrees and east winds of 15 to 20 mph, the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam said in its 6 a.m. forecast.

The high rip current risk along east-facing reefs remains in effect through Thursday afternoon.

Thursday’s rain chance is 30 percent. Mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers continue overnight, with lows around 78 and east winds easing to 10 to 15 mph. Friday brings partly cloudy skies and isolated showers with highs around 87 and lows around 78, with rain chances dropping to 20 percent.

In coastal waters, moderate to fresh easterlies will continue through the rest of the week. Combined seas of 6 to 8 feet will decrease by a foot or two starting Thursday evening and continue to diminish through the weekend. East winds of 15 to 20 knots are expected Thursday and Thursday night before easing to about 15 knots Friday.

At Tanapag Harbor on Saipan, low tide hits at 6:03 a.m. Thursday at 1.8 feet, with high tide at 9:33 a.m. at 2.0 feet, low tide at 5:34 p.m. at minus 0.5 feet, and high tide at 1:28 a.m. Friday at 2.4 feet. Tinian sees low tide at 5:02 a.m. Thursday at 0.6 feet, with high tide at 9:45 a.m. at 1.8 feet. Rota’s low tide Thursday is at 5:19 a.m. at 1.7 feet, with high tide at 9:44 a.m. at 2.3 feet.
