GPA Preparing Additional Power Poles for Shipment to Saipan, Tinian

HAGÅTÑA, Guam – The Guam Power Authority is preparing concrete power poles and other materials for shipment to the CNMI to support post-Super Typhoon Sinlaku recovery efforts on Saipan and Tinian, GPA said Monday.

GPA equipment operators and warehouse personnel are preparing additional poles for the next transport, which is scheduled to depart Guam and arrive in the CNMI in the coming days, the agency said.

The materials will aid critical restoration work as the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. continues repairs to its electrical distribution system. According to the CNMI Joint Information Center, 631 power poles remained down on Saipan as of May 16 with 107 replaced, and 111 poles are confirmed down on Tinian.

GPA thanked the Port Authority of Guam, the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., FEMA and other partners for assisting in the coordinated effort, the agency said.
