ROTA – Rota saw one of its first S.T.R.O.N.G. Roof installations Saturday at a storm-damaged home as federal and local leaders gathered to mark the start of temporary roofing work on the island.
Governor David M. Apatang met with the homeowner at the site, where U.S. Navy Seabees began installing a temporary roofing system in coordination with federal partners. Rota Mayor Aubry Hocog joined the Seabees as work began.
Also present were Governor’s Authorized Representative Patrick Guerrero, Federal Coordinating Officer Andrew Grant, Defense Coordinating Officer Capt. Harry Elliott, LTC Adrian Biggerstaff and representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Sustainment of Temporary Resilience and Operational Needs on Ground program, commonly called the S.T.R.O.N.G. Roof program, provides temporary repairs for homes deemed uninhabitable due to storm damage. Rental properties may also be eligible with owner approval.
