SAIPAN – CNMI Department of Public Safety Commissioner Macaranas thanked officers, support staff and their families this week as the Commonwealth observes National Police Week and continues recovering from Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
National Police Week runs from May 10 to 16.
“As we recognize National Police Week, May 10 to 16, 2026, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank the men and women who put on the police uniform each day and answer the call to serve our communities,” Macaranas said in a statement.
The commissioner acknowledged the toll the recovery has taken on officers personally.
“These past weeks have not been easy for any of us as we continue recovering from the devastating impacts of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Yet despite the challenges, many of you have continued to report for duty, working long hours away from your own families while helping others through some of their most difficult moments,” Macaranas said.
The commissioner extended thanks to officers across all three islands. “To every officer serving on Rota, Tinian and Saipan, thank you. Thank you for standing strong during uncertain times, for continuing to serve with courage and compassion, and for being a source of safety and reassurance for our people.”
Macaranas also recognized department support staff.
“While your work may often happen behind the scenes, your efforts are just as important. The logistical, administrative and operational support you provide every day allows our officers to carry out their mission effectively and safely. Your dedication is deeply valued and appreciated,” the commissioner said.
The commissioner closed with a community message.
“During this National Police Week, may we all take time to honor the service, sacrifice and resilience of every member of our public safety family. On behalf of a grateful community, thank you for all that you do.”
