Apatang, Aldan Mark First STRONG Roof on Tinian as Seabees Begin San Jose Installation

SAIPAN – Governor David M. Apatang and Tinian Mayor Edwin Aldan joined federal partners on Tinian Tuesday for the installation of the island’s first STRONG temporary roof, with U.S. Seabees beginning work on a home in San Jose Village.

Apatang was joined by Governor’s Authorized Representative Patrick Guerrero, Federal Coordinating Officer Andrew Grant, Defense Coordinating Officer Capt. Harry Elliott, and officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of War and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The STRONG mission, which stands for Sustainment of Temporary Resilience and Operational Needs on Ground, provides temporary tarp roof installations to homes rendered uninhabitable by Super Typhoon Sinlaku. The program is also available for rental properties with owner authorization.

Survivors seeking assistance are encouraged to register through their mayor’s office.

As of the most recent CNMI Joint Information Center recovery update, 14 temporary roofs have been installed on Saipan. Tuesday’s San Jose Village installation marks the first temporary roof completed on Tinian.

The same federal and military team is also delivering STRONG tents to households whose homes are no longer habitable. Across both islands, 343 emergency tents have been installed, with 225 on Saipan and 118 on Tinian.
