Show Us the Good: Troy Santos and Volunteer Team Brought Water to Saipan Villages

SAIPAN — A community member submitted a tribute to Troy Santos and a team of volunteers who, in the immediate days after Super Typhoon Sinlaku, procured hundreds of 5-gallon water bottles and brought drinking water house-to-house across Saipan villages.

The submitter, who asked to remain anonymous, said Santos and his team worked with the Saipan water company to refill bottles every day, then drove the bottles out to as many villages as possible, exchanging them with residents who could not come out themselves due to lack of gasoline, access or money. When someone did not have a bottle to exchange, they were given water anyway.

“Troy and his team delivered hundreds of gallons of water across Saipan going into the villages before anybody else,” the submitter said.

At Santos’s request, he is being recognized without a photograph. The submitter said the team was too large to name individually. “So many of them just showed up with their cars and transported bottles to whatever village they were assigned,” the submitter said.

The team coordinated through a volunteer text chat that split assignments by village, the submitter said.
