SAIPAN — The American Red Cross will open service delivery sites across Saipan, Tinian and Rota beginning Monday to process financial assistance applications for households whose primary homes were destroyed or suffered major damage from Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
The Survivors Assistance Center at the Multi-Purpose Center on Beach Road in Susupe will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 11 through May 20.
On Saipan, parish-based sites rotate by date. On odd-numbered dates from May 11 through May 19, caseworkers will be at San Roque Parish church at 3245 Malakes St. and at Kristo Rai Parish in Garapan. On even-numbered dates from May 12 through May 20, sites move to Santa Soledad Parish in Kagman and San Antonio de Padau Parish in San Antonio. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cathedral in Chalan Kanoa II will operate only on Monday, May 18, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On Tinian, the Tinian Youth Center at Bus Stop 5 in San Jose will operate Monday through Thursday, May 11 through May 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Rota, the Rota Mayor’s Office will host caseworkers Saturday and Sunday, May 16 and May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Households are eligible if their pre-disaster primary residence sat in a confirmed disaster-impacted area and was destroyed or sustained major damage. Applicants must also provide proof of identity and residence. Acceptable identity documents include passports, permanent resident cards and government or military ID cards. For address verification, applicants can bring mortgage statements, deeds, rental agreements, leases, utility bills, bank statements or vehicle registrations. Driver’s licenses and government ID cards satisfy both requirements.
The Red Cross said financial assistance is not a loan and will never need to be repaid. All services are available regardless of citizenship status, nationality, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.
