SAIPAN — The National Weather Service in Tiyan is forecasting fair and dry conditions across Saipan, Tinian and Rota through the weekend, offering a welcome break as Sinlaku recovery efforts continue.
Wednesday will bring partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and a 20 percent chance of rain. Winds will blow from the east at 15 to 20 mph with a high near 87 degrees and a low around 78. Thursday calls for partly cloudy skies with isolated light showers, a 10 percent rain chance and similar temperatures. Friday turns mostly sunny with only a 10 percent chance of showers. The pattern holds through at least Tuesday, with partly cloudy skies, highs in the upper 80s, lows in the upper 70s and a 20 percent rain chance.
Coastal seas will run 6 to 8 feet through Thursday before easing to 5 to 6 feet Friday, then building back to 6 to 8 feet over the weekend as moderate to fresh east trades persist. Mariners are urged to use caution.
A high rip current risk remains in effect through Thursday afternoon along east-facing reefs and beaches on Saipan, Tinian and Rota. Swimmers and beachgoers should exercise caution in the water.
NWS is also monitoring Invest 91W, a sub-low located south of Kosrae and Pohnpei. No development is expected in the near term, though forecasters note wide model uncertainty beyond five days. No watches, warnings or advisories are in effect for the Marianas. NWS meteorologist Landon Aydlett joins Good Morning Marianas Wednesday morning for the weekly weather briefing.
