Governor, King-Hinds and Federal Officials Tour Sinlaku Damage Sites Monday

SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang, Congresswoman Kimberlyn King-Hinds and a delegation of federal officials toured Sinlaku damage sites across Saipan Monday, conducting firsthand assessments of schools, shelters, water operations and the hospital as recovery enters its 12th day.

The convoy, organized by the Office of the Governor and secured by DPS, departed the CNMI Emergency Operations Center at Capitol Hill following an 11 a.m. disaster briefing and operations update. The group then visited Tanapag Middle School and GTC Elementary in San Roque, a reverse osmosis and desalination operation also in San Roque, the mass care shelter at the DCCA Kagman Community Center, Northern Marianas College in As Terlaje, and the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation on Navy Hill.

The tour included William “Bill” Hague, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs, and Angel Demapan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs, both from the U.S. Department of the Interior. Also participating were FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Andrew Grant, Department of War Defense Coordinating Officer Capt. Harry Elliott, CNMI Governor’s Authorized Representative Patrick Guerrero and State Coordinating Officer Clement Bermudes.
