Coast Guard Search for MV Mariana Crew Passes 85 Hours, 127,900 Square Nautical Miles

SAIPAN — U.S. Coast Guard crews and partner agencies have now searched more than 85 hours and covered over 127,900 square nautical miles in the ongoing effort to locate five missing crew members of the cargo vessel Mariana, with an HC-130 Hercules from Hawaii and the Guam-based cutter Oliver Henry continuing operations in the vicinity of the Northern Marianas.

Search efforts have included overflights of remote islands throughout the region. The Coast Guard said the families and communities affected by the incident remain in their thoughts.

The MV Mariana went missing following Super Typhoon Sinlaku. One person has been recovered and is in the custody of the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation with identification pending medical examiner review. Five crew members remain missing.
