Typhoon Condition I Cancelled for Rota; Saipan and Tinian Conditions Easing This Afternoon

SAIPAN — Governor David M. Apatang has cancelled Typhoon Condition I for Rota as Typhoon Sinlaku moves 270 miles north of Saipan at 105 mph, according to HSEM Bulletin 22A issued at 6 a.m. Friday.

HSEM said damaging winds are no longer expected on Rota, though residents should remain cautious of strong gusty winds, heavy rain showers from feeder band activity and ongoing hazardous surf and coastal inundation along west-facing shores.

On Saipan and Tinian, sustained winds of 45 to 60 mph with gusts to 60 to 80 mph continue but are expected to gradually weaken by this afternoon. Typhoon Condition I remains in effect. Hazardous surf and coastal inundation along west-facing shores remain a significant threat.

Typhoon Condition I remains in effect for Pagan, Alamagan and Agrihan, with the storm forecast to pass north of Agrihan this afternoon before turning further northeast. The next bulletin is at 8 a.m., followed by an intermediate at 11 a.m.
