SAIPAN — The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation issued a rumor control advisory Saturday evening, directly refuting circulating claims that power and water services will be deliberately shut off within the next 24 to 48 hours.
“Rumors circulating that CUC’s power and water services will be shut off within 24-48 hours are completely false,” the advisory states.
CUC said its power plant operators will continue working through the storm to keep engines running for as long as safely possible. If any engine units need to go offline for safety reasons or are knocked out by the storm, operators will restore them after the storm’s peak passes and once the power distribution crew has safely assessed conditions. Water services will remain online unless affected by power outages or other storm conditions. Residents are urged to rely on official CUC channels for accurate information.
